The spoils of war

Its face is melting! NOOO!

It's face is melting! NOOO!

Oh my goodness, where to start it’s certainly been a busy couple of weeks. Went to Sydney recently for the SMASH convention ( a japanese animation and manga festival ) and met up with mates from Canberra and Perth after a long time. Competed in ‘manga idol’ a competition pitting artist against artist in a 30minute improve battle which at first was very daunting but in the end alot of fun and met up with some very awesome and very talented artists. Won both digital and traditional comps and walked away with a new WACOM bamboo tablet and a compilation of sketches from the animators of ‘bleach’ (a popular animation in japan and gaining popularity in the western states) and made so many new friends. All in all it was my first SMASH convention and definitely not my last. My highlight of the entire con was versing in the final rounds the guest artist in both traditional and digital. For digital it was cuson-lo, a n amazing freelance artist who works for an advertising agency in hk, and for the traditional the insanely wonderful Rosek from brisbane, who’s art just blows my mind. On another note besides going to smash I got to do the whole touristy thing in Sydney since it was only my second time there, saw the bridge, saw the opera house, and ate the food, OMG the food!!!! I love food, especially cake and I came across this little cake shop in Macquaire shopping centre called…wait for it…………HELLO HAPPY! That’s right the store is called ‘hello happy’ and I tell you what I certainly was once I ate their cake. This store specialized in cakes and breads, all the really different kinds unlike your usual run of the mill stuff, and their presentation was extraordinary! I tried their sweet potato cake, a sponge cake with layers of cream which had been mixed together with sweet potato to create and interesting but very nice flavor.
